PRESS RELEASE

Sit-in-Protest Organized by Terminated Employees at Kamalanagar Against CADC Executive Committee's Actions

Kamalanagar, June 27, 2024 – A sit-in-protest was organized today in front of the Chakma Autonomous District Council (CADC) Secretariat at Kamalanagar by nine employees who were recently terminated from their positions at the Borapansury Primary Health Centre (PHC). The termination letters were issued in two different orders, on June 18, 2024, and June 21, 2024, respectively. The protest, led by Shri Nihar Kanti Chakma, President of the Former Borapansury PHC Employees Association, brought attention to what they claim is a politically motivated termination orchestrated by the current Executive Committee of CADC, headed by Rasik Mohan Chakma.

The terminated employees have called for widespread support from the community and all political parties to raise their voices against the perceived injustice. According to Shri Nihar Kanti Chakma, the employees were terminated without cause, based solely on a political conspiracy. He asserted that the termination was influenced by complaints instigated by some elected political leaders in the area, aiming to replace them with their core supporters.

The protest started at 10:30 am and concluded at 2:00 pm. The District President of BJP, CADC, Shri Durjya Dhan Chakma, along with his colleagues, came forward to support the protest. Meanwhile, Shri Doymoy Daveng Chakma, MDC & ZPM Legislature Party Leader in CADC, also supported the protest with his team.

"Out of 14 employees, only nine were terminated, while the remaining five, who are close relatives of the leaders, were not affected," stated Shri Chakma. "This selective termination clearly indicates a political conspiracy to replace us with their kin."

The Borapansury PHC, operating under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model between the Government of Mizoram and CADC since 2013, is the only healthcare facility serving the entire Thega Valley. The terminated employees emphasized that they have been diligently serving the community without any complaints for over a decade. The sudden termination has not only disrupted their lives but also threatens the efficient functioning of the PHC.

"Most of our lives have been dedicated to the PHC. Now, we are overaged and have no prospects for future employment, effectively destroying our livelihoods," lamented Shri Chakma. "We are determined to protest until the Executive Committee reconsiders and reinstates us."

The protesters have expressed their willingness to escalate the protest to a hunger strike if their demands are not met promptly. They appeal to the authorities to rectify this situation and ensure justice for the terminated employees.
