YCA Branch Kamalanagar III congratulates Nirupam Chakma for being appointed member in National ST Commission

March 12, 2024 : The Kamalanagar-III branch of Young Chakma Association (YCA) in the Chakma Autonomous District Council (CADC) has congratulated Dg. Nirupam Chakma, a senior Chakma leader for being appointed as a member of the National Commission for Scheduled Tribes (NCST) which is a constitutional body under Article 338A of the Indian Constitution.

“Our pleasure knows no bounds because Nirupam Chakma sir is not only a veteran political leader but also serves as the advisor of YCA Kamalanagar III branch. As an advisor, NP Chakma provided insightful guidance, unwavering support and he has been the bedrock of our work”, stated branch YCA president D. Paresh Chakma.

Under Article 338A of the Constitution, the NCST has wide ranging powers and functions including to inquire into specific complaints relating to the violation of the rights of the STs, and investigate & monitor matters relating to safeguards provided for STs under the Constitution or under other laws or under Government order, to evaluate the working of such Safeguards, among others.

It is a proud moment for the entire state of Mizoram that Nirupam Chakma has been appointed as member in the National ST Commission. Earlier, many years ago, H. T. Sangliana from Mizoram was appointed Vice-Chairperson in the National Commission for Minorities.

NP Chakma has deep understanding of the tribal issues and problems and we believe that he will leave no stone unturned to work for the betterment of the tribal communities across India.
